I am a guilty water consumer. I was thinking about how much water I waste personally at my house, especially yesterday while shaving in the shower. How many minutes did I spend obsessing about my grooming while the water was running out.
SO. I saw this on the old generic Google homepage
http://www.wikihow.com/Convert-Any-Toilet-to-a-Low-Flush-Toilet
And I'm a gonna' try it. Our family of four flushes so damn many times a day that I feel a strong urge to conserve. Also, one of our toilets is of a 20+year old variety that I think stores enough water in the tank to host (comfortably) a family of beavers.

I've been enjoying your comments since I moved to Oak Park over the summer with my wife and baby girl (13 month old two weeks ago). I'm sitting in Boston this evening at a sustainability conference with a few minutes to spare...and catching up on email and remembered your water related blog. It is a first step towards 'giving thought' on our footprint and I applaud your effort. How did it work out?
Thank you for the comment! Shame on me, I haven't done the low-flow toilet mod yet. I have many excuses for why not, but I won't bug you with them. HOWEVER, I have been flushing LESS, usually only if truly necessary. Maybe that is gross, but I think it is helping a bit.
