We went last weekend. Packed up the kids, drove an hour, passed Ikea, drove through Huntley and shortly thereafter arrived. First thing I notice- the housing developments are encroaching so much on Tom's Farm Market that it is starting to feel boxed in on all sides. I estimate about a 1/2 mile on EVERY side of the farm is a solid row of dream homes. Gawd.
Once we arrive, though, it is Tom's Farm Market Goodness. I just open my wallet, get a handful of tickets and start in on the activities. Both kids want to ride the ponies, J is probably too heavy (70 lbs limit) but nobody called him on it. They had some scales for the more obvious cheaters (I wanted to ride the pony but topped out the scales). E loved riding the pony, J was in rigor the whole time. Different than last year, though, when he bugged after about 30 seconds. The ride goes on and on and on and on and you certainly get your 4 tickets-worth of equine riding.
There is also the large corn maze (shape of a bat) that has questions on posts at certain points- if you answer all the questions by the end of the maze you get a special prize. The boy liked this part of the Farm perhaps the best of all. He loves puzzles, especially a puzzle inside a maze with a prize at the end.
Not a bad morning- Tom's isn't cheap anymore though. We dropped about 50 bucks and walked away with a big pumpkin and some smaller pumpkins. Eh- still pretty fun
